The scholarship was presented during the 20th posthumous remembrance ceremony held in honour of the former Vice Chancellor of the institution who served from 1995 to 2000. He was also recognised as a respected expert in property law.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, described him as a visionary leader who strongly believed in education and contributed to staff welfare, including support for housing projects within and around the institution.

The Pro Chancellor, Wole Olanipekun, also reflected on his role as a mentor and father figure to many people who worked with him.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Barrister Goke Omotola said the scholarship initiative was created to continue his legacy by supporting brilliant but financially challenged law students. He added that investing in students is important for the future of Nigeria legal system.
