PETITION QUESTIONS LAW SCHOOL RECORDS OF DEPUTY SPEAKER
A petition has raised concerns over the Law School records of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The matter has been referred to the Council of Legal Education for review.
Legitdan news report that a petition has been submitted to the Council of Legal Education questioning the Nigerian Law School records of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu.
The petition is based on a registration form allegedly completed in 2010 at the Nigerian Law School Enugu Campus, where he declared that he was not and would not be engaged in any employment or National Youth Service Corps activities during his training.
Petitioners claim that available records indicate he was serving in the National Youth Service Corps during the same period he was enrolled in Law School, suggesting a possible overlap with the declaration he signed.
They argued that if confirmed, the situation may constitute a breach of institutional rules and raises concerns about compliance with professional standards.
The petitioners have called on the Council of Legal Education to review the timelines and relevant regulations to determine if any violation occurred. They noted that the matter is important for maintaining discipline and public trust in the legal profession.
