UI STUDENTS PROTEST SERVICE DISRUPTION DURING STRIKE
Students of the University of Ibadan held a peaceful protest over disruption of essential campus services. The action followed the ongoing NASU and SSANU strike.
Legitdan news report that students of the University of Ibadan on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest on campus over the disruption of essential services caused by the ongoing nationwide strike by the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.
Reports showed students gathered along major campus roads, with some sitting on the carriageway and temporarily obstructing movement by placing debris on pathways. Others were seen walking, discussing, and engaging in recreational activities.
The industrial action was declared by the Joint Action Committee of NASU and SSANU on May 1, 2026, after the expiration of an ultimatum issued to the Federal Government over unresolved issues linked to the 2009 agreement on welfare, salaries, and allowances.
The strike has disrupted non academic services across federal universities, including the University of Ibadan. Affected services include hostels, water supply, electricity, internet access, and administrative operations, creating hardship for students.
