LASU EMERGES MOST PREFERRED UNIVERSITY IN 2026 UTME APPLICATIONS
Lagos State University has topped the list of most preferred universities in the 2026 UTME applications. The data was presented at the JAMB policy meeting in Abuja.
Legitdan news report that Lagos State University has emerged as the most preferred university among candidates in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination according to official application statistics presented at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Policy Meeting in Abuja.
The statistics ranked the top ten first choice universities for the 2026 admission cycle, with Lagos State University receiving 84,426 applications representing 3.76 percent of total university applications nationwide.
The University of Lagos followed with 78,240 applicants, while Obafemi Awolowo University ranked third with 60,370 applications. The University of Ibadan placed fourth with 58,895 applicants, followed by the University of Benin with 55,425 applications.
Other institutions listed among the top ten include Nnamdi Azikiwe University, University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Federal University Oye Ekiti, and University of Port Harcourt.
The data also showed changing admission preferences over the past five years, with some universities maintaining strong demand while others experienced notable shifts in applicant choices.
The statistics were presented during the 2026 Admission Policy Meeting where decisions on admission benchmarks, institutional quotas, and guidelines for the new admission cycle are being discussed.
