JAMB COMPLETES AUTOMATION OF UTME QUESTION SETTING PROCESS

JAMB has concluded the final phase of its long term automation project. The new system enables full digital question creation for the 2026 UTME.

Legitdan news report that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has completed the final phase of its automation initiative, enabling full digitisation of question setting for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, announced the development during a training session for test developers held at the University of Ibadan. He stated that the new system allows question authors to set examination items remotely from any location within the country, eliminating the need for physical travel.

According to him, the final phase focuses on automating the authoring of questions, which is expected to simplify the process, reduce costs, and enhance security and efficiency. He assured stakeholders that measures have been put in place to maintain the integrity of the examination system.

In preparation for the 2026 UTME, JAMB increased its Computer Based Test centres from about 800 last year to over 1,000 this year. The Registrar disclosed that about two million candidates have already registered, surpassing figures recorded at the same period in 2025. He also reminded candidates that pin vending will close as scheduled and that no extension will be granted.

He warned candidates against examination malpractice, stating that offenders would face strict sanctions.

The initiative received commendation from university leaders. The Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Akure, Adenike Oladiji, said enhanced automation would strengthen the credibility of candidate screening and may reduce the need for extensive post UTME assessments.

The Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Olayinka Kareem, described the move as a step toward improved documentation and evaluation of candidates’ performance.

Mahfuz Adedimeji of the African School of Economics noted that the training equips test developers to effectively use the new digital platform, which is expected to improve the quality and efficiency of UTME question setting.

The training programme brought together advisers, directors, and test developers from universities, polytechnics, and secondary schools across the country.
