ASUU RAISES ALARM AS PROFESSORS LEAVE NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

ASUU has expressed concern over the increasing number of lecturers resigning from public universities. The union says poor welfare and working conditions are driving many abroad.

Legitdan news report that the Academic Staff Union of Universities has raised concern over the growing number of lecturers leaving Nigeria public universities.

According to the union, more than 309 professors resigned within the last nine months in search of better opportunities outside the country.

ASUU stated that many academics are relocating to countries such as the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Cameroon because of poor salaries, difficult working conditions, and the failure of government to implement previous agreements.

The union also warned that another warning strike may occur soon if urgent steps are not taken to improve university funding, staff welfare, and institutional standards.

ASUU added that the continuous loss of experienced lecturers is affecting the quality of education in Nigeria public universities.
