2024 CONVOCATION: USMAN DANFODIYO UNIVERSITY, SOKOTO (UDUS) SETS TO GRADUATE 22,932 STUDENTS
The convocation ceremony of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto commenced earlier today Monday, April 15th, 2023 with the Vice-Chancellor’s Press briefing at the Ahmadu Bello Senate building of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
Addressing the media, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawal Suleman Bilbis highlighted the uniqueness of the 2024 combined convocation ceremony, with a staggering 22,932 graduates of four sets being expected to participate.
According to Prof. Bilbis, 18,644 will receive Bachelor’s degrees, 427 will receive diplomas and certificates, while the remaining 4,288 will receive various certificates of higher degrees and postgraduate diplomas. Among them, 296 will be conferred with Doctoral degrees, 1,322 with Master’s degrees, and 2,670 with postgraduate diplomas in their respective fields.
In terms of academic achievements for all the four sets, 167 students graduated with first-class honors, 3,486 with second-class upper division, 9,573 with second-class lower division, and 15 with pass degrees. Additionally, 1,199 students are from specialized programs such as Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, and Nursing across various departments, faculties, colleges, and schools of the university.
The erudite Vice-Chancellor also announced the forthcoming award of honorary degrees to distinguished personalities and the conferment of Professor Emeritus titles.
”The University is processing the award of honorary degrees to some personalities and professor Emeritus, when the process is completed, a press statement will be issued to that fact,” he added.
Aside from the convocation ceremony, various activities have been scheduled, including a Convocation Debate and Drama on April 16th at the University Auditorium, a Novelty Football Match on April 17th at the University Stadium, and the Convocation Lecture on April 18th at the main campus. The convocation lecture, titled ‘Navigating the Maze: Addressing Multidimensional Insecurity Challenges in Northern Nigeria’, will be delivered by the National Security Adviser, Mal. Nuhu Ribadu, on Thursday.
According to him, the remaining events include the Award of Certificates on April 19th and the Presentation of Prizes on April 20th at the Convocation Square.
