CONGRESS OF NIGERIA UNIVERSITY ACADEMICS, (CONUA) SHUNS NLC, SAYS WE WILL NOT JOIN STRIKE

The Congress of Nigerian University Academics, has made it clear that its members are not participating in the current nationwide strike announced by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

In a statement released and signed by the National President, Niyi Sunmonu, the union clarified its position, stating that it is not involved in the ongoing strike action.

The statement, shared with The Punch on Tuesday, emphasised that the Congress was not consulted by the organising bodies, the NLC and TUC, before the declaration of the strike.

The statement read, “As of the moment of putting together this release, the TUC with whom CONUA submitted an affiliation request has not communicated this position on strike action to it.

The labour unions on Monday ordered their affiliates to withdraw their services nationwide from midnight on November 14, 2023.
