Legitdan News reports that the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities have confirmed the commencement of a nationwide strike across federal universities and inter-university centres.

The decision was communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2026, addressed to the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, citing the Federal Government’s failure to conclude renegotiations and present a new offer on allowances.

The letter, signed by NASU General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, stated that the strike will begin at midnight on May 1, 2026.

According to the unions, the withdrawal of the earlier circular on a 30 percent increase in the Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance did not address the main concerns.

They stressed that the slow pace of renegotiation and the absence of a fresh proposal from the government remain unresolved issues.

The development is expected to disrupt academic and administrative activities across federal universities if no immediate resolution is reached.
