UNILORIN PROMOTES 43 LECTURERS TO PROFESSORS
The University of Ilorin has promoted 43 senior lecturers to professorial rank. The move reflects continued growth in academic staff development.
Legitdan news report that the University of Ilorin has approved the promotion of 43 senior lecturers to the rank of professor.
The promotions were approved by the university governing council, with some of the affected lecturers having awaited elevation since 2025 due to delays in council meetings.
The newly promoted professors are drawn from various departments including law, engineering, health sciences, and social sciences, indicating strong academic performance across multiple disciplines.
The university disclosed that a total of 131 lecturers have been elevated to professorship within the last four years, reflecting steady growth in its academic workforce.
It further explained that the promoted lecturers met the requirements for the rank through achievements in teaching, research, and community service. In Nigeria, attaining the rank of professor typically takes between 15 and 25 years of academic work.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has introduced a new allowance structure for professors under an agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, aimed at improving staff welfare in public universities.
