UI MANAGEMENT AGREES TO KEY DEMANDS AFTER STUDENTS’ PROTEST

Legitdan News reports that the management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has reached important resolutions with the Students’ Union following a protest and emergency congress held on campus.

According to a statement released by the Students’ Union on May 6, 2026, union leaders alongside faculty presidents, hall chairpersons, the Speaker of the SRC, and congress representatives met with the Vice-Chancellor to present students’ demands.

The union confirmed that the university management committed to three major resolutions aimed at improving students’ welfare and campus living conditions.

The first resolution focuses on immediate improvement in electricity supply across the campus, with management stating that necessary measures have already been activated.

Secondly, the University Health Service (UHS) has been directed to reopen immediately to provide essential medical services for students.

Management also approved the use of cooking gas in halls of residence, with preparations currently ongoing. The Students’ Union disclosed that an official memorandum on the approval is expected to be released within two weeks.

Following the agreements reached, students have been advised to resume academic activities immediately while negotiations continue on other pending issues.

The union leadership also praised students for their unity and participation during the protest, assuring them that it will continue to monitor the implementation of all resolutions reached with management.
