LASU EMERGES MOST PREFERRED UNIVERSITY IN 2026 UTME APPLICATIONS
Legitdan News reports that Lagos State University has emerged as the most preferred university among candidates who participated in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The official statistics were presented during the ongoing 2026 JAMB Admission Policy Meeting held by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in Abuja.
According to the data released at the meeting, LASU received 84,426 first-choice applications, representing 3.76 percent of total university applications nationwide.
University of Lagos followed closely with 78,240 applicants, while Obafemi Awolowo University secured third position with 60,370 applications.
Other institutions on the list include University of Ibadan with 58,895 applications and University of Benin with 55,425 applicants.
The top ten most preferred universities also featured Nnamdi Azikiwe University, University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Federal University Oye Ekiti, and University of Port Harcourt.
The statistics also highlighted changing admission trends across the country, showing institutions that have maintained strong applicant interest over the years and others that recorded significant growth in preference among candidates.
The figures were unveiled as stakeholders continue deliberations on admission benchmarks, institutional quotas, and guidelines for the 2026/2027 admission exercise.
