JAMB TO ALLOW CANDIDATES USE PERSONAL LAPTOPS FOR UTME FROM 2027

Legitdan News reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has revealed plans to allow candidates use their personal laptops or computers for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination beginning from 2027.

The announcement was made by the JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2026 Admission Policy Meeting held in Abuja.

According to the Board, the proposed system will allow candidates to write the examination using their own laptops instead of depending completely on computers provided at CBT centres.

JAMB explained that monitoring and security measures will still remain active during the examination process. The Board added that a flash drive would be connected to candidates’ laptops during the exam to help prevent malpractice and unauthorized activities.

The Registrar noted that the new initiative is part of broader reforms expected to improve the conduct of UTME and reduce technical issues often experienced at some CBT centres.

JAMB also stated that the proposed method may help reduce examination costs and make the process easier to manage.

The Board, however, clarified that the system has not started yet and is only expected to commence from 2027. Candidates preparing for upcoming UTME examinations have been advised to continue with the current registration and examination procedures.

The Board further hinted that additional reforms and technological upgrades are being planned ahead of the 2027 UTME exercise.
