FG WARNS TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS AGAINST ILLEGAL ADMISSIONS ABOVE APPROVED QUOTAS

Legitdan News reports that Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has issued a strong warning to tertiary institutions against admitting students beyond their approved admission quotas.

The Minister gave the warning during the ongoing 2026 Admission Policy Meeting organized by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in Abuja.

According to him, institutions must strictly comply with their approved carrying capacities and admission limits as determined by regulatory authorities.

He further disclosed that a special monitoring committee would be established to ensure compliance across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.

The Minister stated that any institution found engaging in unauthorized admissions or exceeding approved quotas would face sanctions and penalties from the appropriate authorities.

The warning is part of the Federal Government’s renewed efforts to improve transparency, accountability, and quality assurance in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.

Stakeholders at the meeting are expected to deliberate on key admission guidelines and policies that will shape the 2026/2027 admission exercise across the country.
