FG INVITES SSANU AND NASU FOR STRIKE RECONCILIATION TALKS
The Federal Government has invited SSANU and NASU leaders for a reconciliation meeting. The talks are aimed at ending the ongoing nationwide strike.
Legitdan news report that the Federal Government has invited leaders of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions under their Joint Action Committee for a reconciliation meeting over the ongoing nationwide strike.
The meeting is expected to hold with the Minister of Education and may produce a fresh offer aimed at convincing the unions to suspend the industrial action which began on May 1, 2026.
The unions had commenced the strike after accusing the government of delaying the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and failing to present a new proposal on allowances. They also cited the earlier withdrawal of a proposed 30 percent allowance circular.
According to the union leadership, the strike followed repeated deadlines that expired without concrete action from the government. They added that no replacement offer has been presented after the withdrawal of the earlier proposal.
The industrial action has already affected administrative and support services across federal universities, raising concerns about wider disruption in the education sector if no agreement is reached soon.
