ASUU WARNS OF FRESH STRIKE OVER UNMET 2025 AGREEMENT
ASUU has warned that Nigerian universities may face another strike if unresolved issues in the 2025 agreement are not addressed. The union raised concerns after its NEC meeting in Yola.
Legitdan news report that the Academic Staff Union of Universities has warned that Nigerian universities may experience another strike if the Federal Government continues to ignore important parts of the 2025 agreement reached with the union.
Speaking after the union National Executive Council meeting in Yola, ASUU President, Professor Christopher Piwuna, accused both federal and state governments of failing to fully implement lecturers welfare packages, unpaid allowances, salary arrears, and pension matters.
The union also criticised some recent education policies introduced by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa. These include the proposed establishment of foreign university campuses in Nigeria and plans to remove some university courses.
ASUU stated that continued neglect of lecturers and the wider education sector could result in fresh industrial unrest if urgent action is not taken by the authorities.
