The Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Professor Mrs Chinedum Peace Babalola, has charged 394 newly matriculated students of the institution to have a positive mindset towards achieving success in their academic programmes.
Babalola stated this in her address at the 9th Matriculation Ceremony of the school for the 2023–2024 academic year, held at the university’s auditorium on Thursday.
The VC, while speaking on the theme ‘Overcoming and Winning Year’, admonished the students to be courageous and acquire the necessary training that would make them overcomers in difficult times.
She explained that the private-owned institution had continued to grow by leaps and bounds with an increase in the number of students, as well as having all its programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“The nation and the whole world are filled with difficult times and challenges, and no one is spared, including our families and the university.
“It is a time to acquire the courage and the necessary training to overcome these hard times and end up as a winner.
” The training you will receive at Chrisland University, including the speakers’ addresses, will prepare you to be a winner and an overcomer,” she added.
The VC advised the new students to avail themselves of the opportunity, not only to excel in learning but also in character and become good ambassadors of the school.
The guest speaker, Dr. Kate Isa, urged the students to be ready to learn lessons that would shape their lives and lead them to good success.
Isa, the founder of Katchey Company Limited, spoke on the topic ” How to Win” and informed the students on the need to effectively manage their time, build a supportive network, get a mentor, and set realistic academic goals.
” Winning is not about perfection; it’s about progress. Be kind to yourself, be persistent, and believe in your potential.
” What will success look like to you at the end of your journey here? You have to define that today. You have to embrace this journey, find your purpose, and evolve into the best version of yourself,” she said.
” At your age, you might feel the weight of expectations and the excitement of possibilities.
” Embrace both and remember that life is not a sprint; it is a marathon. It is about consistent effort, learning from each step, and enjoying the process. Life is a journey filled with ups and downs,” she said.
