Legitdan News reports that a student of University of Benin was reportedly shot dead on Sunday evening near the Ugbowo campus gate.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred while the student was leaving the campus in a GLK Mercedes Benz when suspected masked gunmen allegedly opened fire on the vehicle at close range before fleeing the scene.
The identity of the deceased had not been officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Sources disclosed that the student had reportedly finished an examination in the Political Science Department about an hour before the attack.
The victim was said to be travelling with two other individuals at the time of the incident.
The two other occupants reportedly survived the attack and were rushed to the university health centre for treatment, although details regarding their condition remain unclear.
The incident has raised fresh security concerns among students and staff within the university environment.
Authorities of the institution and security agencies are yet to release an official statement, while police investigations are ongoing to determine those responsible and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
