SIERRA LEONE PRINCIPALS BOYCOTT 2025 WASSCE, GIVE WAEC 72-HOUR ULTIMATUM
Legitdan News reports that a powerful coalition of school principals in Sierra Leone has pulled out of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), accusing WAEC of mismanagement and lack of transparency.
In a letter dated April 25, 2025, the Coalition for Principals’ Solidarity announced that all principals under its umbrella will not participate in the 2025 WASSCE. They also instructed teachers nationwide to withdraw from all WAEC duties, including invigilation and supervision.
The letter was sent to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, and was also copied to WAEC-Sierra Leone, the Inspector General of Police, Armed Forces, Civil Society Groups, Media, Parents’ Associations, and the Office of the Chief Minister.
The coalition accused WAEC of:

Failing to maintain examination integrity

Disregarding educational stakeholders

Operating with a lack of transparency
The group has planned peaceful protests at WAEC district offices, especially in the Western Region, and called on parents — especially mothers — to join in defending students’ futures.
They also issued a 72-hour ultimatum, demanding that:

All scannable materials be removed from exam centers

WAEC finds new venues for the examinations
According to them, schools under the coalition will not host any WAEC exam under the current conditions.
Finally, the principals boldly urged the government to bring in a new international examination body to replace WAEC, claiming the current system is no longer fair or professional.
