OUTGONE CORPS MEMBERS TO RECEIVE ₦77OOO MINIMUM WAGE ARREARS — NYSC DG

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has assured that corps members who recently completed their national service will receive the outstanding arrears of the N77,000 allowance. This announcement was made during the Batch A 2025 pre-mobilisation workshop held in Abuja.

The Federal Government commenced payment of the new allowance last month, eight months after President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law. Nafiu reiterated that the government is committed to fulfilling its promise and will release funds to offset the arrears.

“We have their bank details, and once we receive cash backing for the arrears, we will credit them,” Nafiu stated, urging Nigerians not to worry as the government is responsible and responsive to their needs.

However, the NYSC still faces challenges, particularly the fraudulent uploading of unqualified graduates by tertiary institutions. The Director, Corps Mobilisation, Mohammed Abubakar, emphasized the need to address this issue, stressing that the scheme is vital for national growth but requires proactive measures to overcome its challenges.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, advocated for the reform of the NYSC scheme to align with the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to build an adaptive and inclusive NYSC that serves future generations.

In a show of support, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, assured the NYSC of adequate support during the service year, pledging continued partnership to meet the scheme’s objectives.
