LAGOS STATE REPORTS OVER 31,000 FAILURES IN 2024 WASSCE

Legitdan News reports that the Lagos State Government has revealed that over 31,000 students from public secondary schools failed the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), despite the government spending more than N1.5 billion on examination fees.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, stated that the government paid N1,577,794,000 for the exam registration of 58,188 eligible students under its free education policy. Unfortunately, only 26,592 students passed the exams, while 31,596 students failed.

Describing the situation as worrisome, Alli-Balogun emphasized the need to review the current subsidy model.
