Key Facts UTME Candidates Should Know About the JAMB Mock Examination

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) mock examination remains an optional but important preparatory exercise for candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Legitdan news report that the JAMB mock examination is a practice test organised to familiarise UTME candidates with the real Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment ahead of the main examination.

The mock exam is not compulsory and does not in any way affect a candidate’s final UTME score. Participation is optional, and candidates who miss the mock exam face no penalty from JAMB.

Registration for the mock examination can only be done during UTME registration. Once UTME registration closes, candidates cannot add the mock option. The mock exam is strictly for UTME candidates, as Direct Entry applicants are not eligible to participate.

The mock examination is conducted before the main UTME and is written on a single scheduled day nationwide. Candidates sit for the same four subjects they registered for in the UTME and are scored over a total of 400 marks. However, the questions are generally easier than those in the main UTME and are never repeated in the actual examination.

To take part, candidates must print their mock examination slip from the JAMB portal. The slip contains essential details such as the examination date, time, and centre. Candidates without the printed slip are not allowed entry into the examination hall.

Results from the mock examination are usually released a few days after the exam. While the scores do not determine performance in the main UTME, the mock provides valuable experience in using the CBT system, managing time, and understanding examination procedures.

Education experts advise first-time UTME candidates in particular to take advantage of the mock examination, as it helps build confidence and reduce anxiety ahead of the main UTME.
