FULOKOJA FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE HOLDS ORIENTATION, HIGHLIGHTS BIOTECHNOLOGY IN FOOD SECURITY
The orientation programme focused on innovation, leadership and national development through agriculture, with OFAB Nigeria delivering a lecture on biotechnology applications.
Legitdan news report that the Federal University Lokoja, Faculty of Agriculture, on February 24, 2026, organised its 2025 2026 Academic Session Orientation Programme for newly admitted students.
The programme centred on innovation, leadership and national development through agriculture. The Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology in Africa Nigeria participated actively in the event.
During the programme, Rose Gidado delivered a lecture titled “Agricultural Biotechnology Application for Nigeria’s Food and Nutrition Security Enhancement: Current and Future Prospects.” She explained the role of modern biotechnology in improving crop productivity, enhancing climate resilience, reducing pesticide use and strengthening sustainable food systems in Nigeria.
In his address, the Dean of the Faculty, S. O. Olufeagba, charged the 160 newly admitted students to uphold discipline, creativity and excellence. He stressed that modern agriculture now integrates biotechnology, climate smart practices, mechanisation, precision farming and agribusiness innovation.
A major highlight of the event was the symbolic planting of Pod Borer Resistant cowpea, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to science driven agriculture and practical learning.
