About the Centre for Safety Management, Federal University Lokoja: The Centre for Safety Management was established to address the growing need for safety awareness and risk management in various sectors of the economy. The Centre is a multidisciplinary professional programme that integrates industrial, occupational, environmental, and public safety. It serves as a hub for innovative research, training, and solutions in occupational and environmental safety, addressing critical industry challenges while fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government.

Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the under-listed postgraduate professional programmes of the Centre for Safety Management under the College of Postgraduate Studies in collaboration with the Safety Analytics Limited:

1. Professional Diploma in Process Safety Management (Duration: intensive 6 months)

This programme equips professionals with advanced skills to implement and manage safety protocols in high-risk industries. Designed for process engineers, safety managers, and operational leaders, it focuses on risk assessment, hazard control, and compliance with local and global safety standards. Participants will gain expertise and knowledge in hazard identification, risk assessment, and the design of robust safety management systems, enhancing operational efficiency while minimising risks.

Career Opportunities: Graduates can pursue roles as safety managers, consultants, or process engineers in sectors such as oil & gas, chemical, and manufacturing industries.

Admission Requirement: A minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in the field of science or engineering.

1. Professional Diploma in Workplace Safety Management (Duration: intensive 6 months)

This programme is tailored for professionals seeking advanced expertise in workplace safety management. It provides the skills to design, implement, and oversee effective health and safety strategies, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and fostering a safety-conscious work environment.

Ideal for safety managers, consultants, and senior practitioners, this diploma enhances career prospects and organisational impact. The curriculum covers risk assessment, hazard control, and leadership in health and safety, offering a comprehensive pathway for career advancement.

Admission Requirement: A minimum of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in any field of sciences, or engineering.

1. Professional Master in Process Safety Management (Duration: 12 Months)

This programme enhances professional advanced knowledge in risk management, process safety, regulatory requirements, and the skills needed to manage and mitigate risks associated with hazardous processes across various sectors. It is designed to ensure safe operations in high-risk industries such as oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and other related fields by preventing accidents and incidents linked to hazardous activities. By integrating academic understanding with real-world applications, the programme enables participants to develop and implement effective safety management plans within any organisation.

Admission Requirement: A minimum of a Bachelor Degree in any field of science or engineering.

1. Professional Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (Duration:12 Months)

This professional programme provides a strong foundation in risk management, regulatory compliance, occupational safety and health concepts, ergonomics and human factors, and the promotion of a safe working environment across industries such as manufacturing, construction, healthcare, public safety, and oil and gas.

Admission Requirement: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any field of sciences, or engineering.

1. Professional Master’s Degree in System Safety and Reliability Studies (Duration:12 Months)

This professional master’s programme provides a strong foundation in safety instrumented systems, reliability analysis, maintenance management tools, maintenance standards, safety analysis, system design and operation, regulatory compliance, occupational safety and health concepts, ergonomics and human factors, and the promotion of a safe working environment across industries such as manufacturing, construction, aviation, military, healthcare, public safety, and oil and gas.

Admission Requirement: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, petroleum and gas engineering, electrical and electronics, robotics engineering, aviation and other similar fields.

1. Professional Master’s Degree in Environmental Safety and Health (Duration: 12 Months)

This extensive, multidisciplinary Professional Master’s program in Environmental Safety and Health is designed to provide students the information, abilities, and real-world experience they need to succeed in the profession. The curriculum is designed for individuals who want to grow in fields where environmental health and safety (EHS) are important, such as manufacturing, construction, oil and gas, healthcare, and public safety.

The curriculum equips students to address complex safety and health concerns in a variety of work situations by fusing academic underpinnings with practical applications. In addition to developing and implementing safety procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting environmentally and human health-friendly sustainable practices, students will learn how to evaluate and manage environmental hazards.

Admission Requirement: A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in any field of sciences, or engineering.

Mode of Study

The programme is available for regular classes and distance learning.

Regular Students

Students in the regular programme will take their classes at the university campus or Learning Centre nearest to them throughout the programme duration. Lectures can be taken at the main campus in Lokoja, Port Harcourt Learning Centre or Abuja Learning Centre.

Distance Learning

Students in distance learning will have access to lectures on our learning portal and through the virtual classrooms. They can attend lectures from any part of the world.

However, they must participate in practical sessions and industrial experience as the university prescribes.

How to Apply

1. Interested candidates should visit the university website pg.fulokoja.edu.ng/iogads/ to create an application profile (Create Account), select programme type (Masters (MAS) or Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)), Select Course and follow the application procedure.
2. Theapplication fee for Nigerian citizens for the Professional Diploma is Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000), while the Professional Master’s programme is Forty Thousand Naira (N40,000). Application fee for international students is $100, and $150 for Professional Diploma and Professional Master degree,
3. The sale and submission of applications will take place from Wednesday, 12thMarch, 2025 to Friday, 18th April, 2025.
4. Applicants must ensure they meet the entry requirements for the chosen programme, including five (5) O’Level credits, with English Languageand Mathematics being compulsory.
