FG ASSURES END TO STRIKES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
The Federal Government has stated that strikes in universities and polytechnics have been resolved. Officials say new agreements will ensure stable academic calendars.
Legitdan news report that the Federal Government has assured Nigerians that strikes in tertiary institutions will no longer disrupt academic activities.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, stated that long standing issues with the Academic Staff Union of Universities have been resolved through a 2025 agreement. The agreement includes a 40 percent salary increase, improved pension arrangements, and enhanced funding for universities.
He explained that payments under the new salary structure have already commenced in many institutions, even before the full approval of the 2026 national budget.
The minister also disclosed that discussions with the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions are at an advanced stage, with a similar agreement expected to be finalised soon.
He dismissed reports of a possible strike, stating that the concerns of both academic and non academic staff are being addressed. According to him, the government aims to ensure uninterrupted academic calendars and improve the overall education system.
