NYSC OFFICIAL ARRAIGNED OVER DEATH OF CORPS MEMBER IN OGUN

An NYSC official has been arraigned in Abeokuta over alleged involvement in the death of a corps member. The court granted bail and adjourned the case to April 14 2026.

Legitdan news report that an official of the National Youth Service Corps, Abass Olalekan, has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on a two count charge of conspiracy and unlawful procurement of abortion following the death of a corps member, Victoria Ariyo Olapeju.

According to the charge sheet, the defendant allegedly conspired with others between January and March 2026 at the Ikereku area, Laderin, Abeokuta, to procure an abortion, including supplying drugs to the deceased. The offences are punishable under Sections 516 and 230 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State 2006.

The defendant, who was reported to have been in a relationship with the deceased, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the defendant, Elizabeth Adelabu, applied for bail which was granted in the sum of five hundred thousand naira with two sureties. The court specified that one surety must be a blood relative while the other must be gainfully employed.

The court also ordered the submission of necessary documents and remanded the defendant at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the perfection of bail conditions.
