MINISTER URGES UNIVERSITIES TO BECOME INNOVATION HUBS AT OOU CONVOCATION

The Minister of Communications called on universities to move beyond certificate awards and focus on entrepreneurship and real life solutions. The appeal was made at Olabisi Onabanjo University convocation lecture.

Legitdan news report that at the 35th convocation lecture of Olabisi Onabanjo University, the Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani urged Nigerian universities to focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical skills instead of only awarding certificates.

He said universities should improve teaching quality, carry out relevant research, and solve real life problems to support national development and economic growth. He also noted that the university has an advantage because of the industrial strength of Ogun State and the presence of many institutions that can help convert academic ideas into economic value.

Governor Dapo Abiodun praised the university for producing disciplined graduates and rewarded the best students with cash gifts. The Vice Chancellor Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola restated the institution’s commitment to digital transformation and a student friendly environment.

The convocation activities also included cultural displays, community engagement programmes, and celebrations involving students and university leadership.
