The University of Lagos combines JAMB and Post-UTME scores in its admission process, with strong emphasis on aggregate performance, especially for competitive courses.

Legitdan news report that the University of Lagos conducts its admission process by combining candidates’ UTME (JAMB) scores with their Post-UTME performance to determine overall aggregate scores.

Findings show that for highly competitive courses such as Medicine, Law, and Pharmacy, candidates are required to attain extremely high aggregates to stand a chance of admission.

Admission analysts explain that a higher JAMB score alone does not guarantee admission if a candidate performs poorly in the Post-UTME screening. In several cases, candidates with slightly lower UTME scores but strong Post-UTME results have been admitted ahead of those with higher JAMB scores and weak Post-UTME performance.

For instance, a candidate who scored 280 in UTME but performed poorly in the Post-UTME may lose admission to another candidate who scored 265 in UTME but recorded an excellent Post-UTME score.

The development highlights the importance of balanced preparation, as strong UTME performance without an effective Post-UTME strategy may reduce a candidate’s chances of securing admission into competitive programmes.
