JAMB 2026: About One Million Candidates Registered as Board Rules Out Deadline Extension

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says nearly one million candidates have already registered for the ongoing 2026 UTME, as it warns that the registration deadline will not be extended under any circumstance.

Legitdan news report that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that about one million candidates have so far registered for the ongoing 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The information was contained in the Board’s official bulletin.

JAMB reminded candidates that the sale of ePINs will end on February 26, 2026, while registration will officially close on February 28, 2026. The Board advised all prospective candidates who intend to sit for the examination to complete their registration immediately, stressing that there will be no extension of the registration deadline.

According to JAMB, the registration exercise began on Monday, January 26, 2026, and was clearly scheduled to last for five weeks. The Board stated that this timeline remains unchanged and will be strictly enforced.

JAMB expressed concern over the low turnout of candidates at many accredited registration centres at this stage of the exercise. It noted that the recurring habit of candidates deliberately delaying registration until the final days and later agitating for an extension will not be entertained in 2026.

The Board also warned that it is aware of deliberate attempts by examination cheats and individuals posing as tutorial centre operators to mislead candidates into delaying registration in anticipation of a deadline extension. JAMB explained that such tactics are aimed at forcing last-minute mass registration, which could facilitate examination malpractice.

JAMB reiterated unequivocally that there will be no extension of the 2026 UTME registration period, adding that extending the exercise is impracticable due to its tightly aligned operational calendar with other examination bodies.

Candidates were therefore advised to register early, avoid last-minute rushes, and disregard any claims suggesting a possible extension, as the Board will not be held responsible for candidates who fail to register within the stipulated period.
