UNIBEN ASSURES 2025 2026 ADMISSION CANDIDATES OF CLEARANCE AMID OPTOMETRY QUOTA CONCERNS
Legitdan News reports that the University of Benin UNIBEN has issued an official circular addressing complaints over clearance challenges faced by some students offered provisional admission for the 2025 2026 academic session.
The circular, dated February 3 2026 and signed by the Registrar, Ademola A. Bobola, followed reports from different sectors of the university on difficulties experienced during the clearance process.
Management noted that some students admitted into the Faculty of Optometry were reportedly denied clearance due to quota limitations from a professional body. The university clarified that it is not directly responsible to any professional body but operates under the National Universities Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education.
UNIBEN stated clearly that no student who meets the minimum entry requirements will be denied clearance into the programme for which provisional admission was offered.
All affected students, including those admitted into the Optometry programme, have been directed to report back to their respective faculties and clearance officers for prompt clearance.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba B. Omoregie SAN, alongside the university management, reaffirmed that denial of clearance will only apply to candidates who fail to meet minimum academic requirements.
Deans and clearance officers have been instructed to comply strictly with the university position on the matter.
