COLLEGE OF NURSING, OKE-ODE, MATRICULATES STUDENTS, COMMENDS GOVERNOR ABDULRAZAQ
The Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State has matriculated its first set of students, where Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was commended for his commitment to the educational development of the State.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education Hon. Sa’adatu Modibo Kawu who gave the commendation, applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his transformational strides in the education and health care sectors. He cited his support for tertiary institutions to include recruitment of health care personnel and equipping of health care facilities as part of his various interventions.
Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo advised the matriculating students to be committed as lives of others will be entrusted in their care, urging them to always act with integrity professionalism and compassion. She charged them to embrace the core values of the profession and commit themselves to their studies in order to excel in their various academic endeavours.
The Commissioner who also used the opportunity to express gratitude to parents and guardians for their support, acknowledged the host community and traditional rulers for providing a peaceful environment for the growth of the institution.
In his welcome address, the Provost of the college, Alhaji Abdquadri Lanre described the event as both historic and long overdue, stating that the matriculation of the (ND) nursing students was approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
He also affirmed that the programme had been fully accredited by both the NMCN and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
The Provost who also showered praises and encomium on Governor Abdulrazaq, whom he described as a silent achiever, humble, and visionary leader. He commended the Governor for making healthcare delivery accessible to all and for understanding that infrastructure alone, cannot deliver quality healthcare without competent health personnel.
Speaking earlier, the guest speaker of the occasion, Prof. Joel Afolayan from the Department of Nursing, University of Ilorin, delivered a thought-provoking lecture on the theme: “The Future of Nursing — Emerging Roles and Specializations”.
In her remarks, the students set Coordinator, Muhammad AishatTalatu, used the occasion to welcome the students and encouraged them to approach their academic journey with the mindset of winning a race, guided by the principles of capacity, conformity and commitment.
Highlights of the programme included the symbolic capping and stripping of the matriculating students and tour of the College facilities by the Commissioner, goodwill messages and drama presentations.
The ceremony was well attended by dignitaries, including the Directors from the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Academic and Non-Academic staff of the College, parents, and well-wishers of the graduating students.
