OAU RAISES ALARM OVER DISAPPEARANCE OF 300-LEVEL STUDENT

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has reported the case of a missing female student to the police.

In a statement issues on Sunday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, the missing student was identified as Dorcas Oseghale, a 300-level student of the Department of Chemistry with matric number CHM/2021/165. She has reportedly not been seen for four days.

Olarewaju explained that Dorcas, who resides at Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, was last seen on the evening of August 6, 2025, at about 8 p.m., when she told her roommate she was going out to buy food near the Students’ Village, along Ede Road. She never returned, and attempts to reach her on her two phone lines were unsuccessful.

The PRO added that the university’s Security Unit began tracking discussions about the incident on student social media platforms at around 3 p.m. on August 7 after receiving an initial report. Later that day, at about 6:10 p.m., a search party comprising students from the Department of Chemistry and the missing student’s roommate, Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice of Agricultural Extension, formally reported the case at the Security Unit.

Due to the complexity of the matter and limited resources, the Security Unit assigned three personnel to join the search and forward preliminary findings to the police.

Reacting to the incident, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, praised the students for their quick response in noticing Dorcas’s absence and promptly notifying the authorities.
