NYSC DELAYS ₦77,000 ALLOWANCE PAYMENT OVER FUNDING CHALLENGES
Legitdan News reports that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has attributed the delay in implementing the new ₦77,000 monthly allowance for corps members to funding challenges.
Despite the Federal Government’s approval of the increase from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 in July 2024, payments were expected to commence in February 2025. However, corps members have continued receiving the old stipend, causing frustration amid the rising cost of living.
Carol Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, stated that the scheme is actively working to secure the necessary funds. She also mentioned that the new NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, is still familiarizing himself with the matter.
“We are currently pursuing the cash backing… This will require time as it is part of due diligence,” Embu explained, assuring corps members that updates would be provided once clarity on payment timelines is achieved.
The delay has left many corps members struggling financially, but stakeholders are urging swift action to resolve the funding issues and implement the new allowance as soon as possible.
