Program to Kickoff with B.Sc in Public Administration

In a significant move to expand access to higher education, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) is set to launch an Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) program, starting with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration. This initiative aims to accommodate individuals who, due to their busy schedules, cannot attend conventional university classes.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) conveyed its approval for the program’s commencement in a letter dated June 11, 2024, addressed to NSUK’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman. The letter, signed by NUC’s Acting Director of Open Distance and e-Learning, Dr. Fumilayo Morebise, confirmed the validated status recommended by a panel of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Subject Matter Experts, along with NUC representatives, who visited the proposed Centre between February 22 and 24, 2024.

Key Details of the Approval

The NUC’s approval allows the ODeL Centre at NSUK to begin academic activities, specifically mentioning the use of the ICT-Enabled Supported Blended Model for delivering the B.Sc in Public Administration. The letter also indicated that the addition of new programs would be subject to a program-by-program assessment and approval by the Commission.

Vice-Chancellor’s Response

Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman expressed her excitement about the approval, highlighting that the ODeL Centre would enable prospective students from around the world to access NSUK’s programs through the e-Learning platform. She emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step towards the university’s globalization and promised that more programs would be added to the ODeL platform in the coming years.
