NELFUND Responds to Complaints About Student Loan Portal Hours After Launch
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has addressed recent complaints from students experiencing difficulties applying on the Student Loan Application portal.
The organization provided the following solutions to common issues:
- School Not Listed: If a student’s school is not on the list of institutions, NELFUND advises contacting the ICT department of the respective school to reach out to NELFUND.
- JAMB Number Not Verifying: Students should contact their school to ensure their admission was supported by JAMB.
- State-Owned Institutions: The current rollout phase only includes federal institutions. Students from state-owned institutions are advised to wait for further updates.
- No Institution in Dropdown List: Check the internet connection and refresh the browser.
- Email Verification Issues: Ensure the correct email address is entered.
- Matriculation Number Not Verified: Contact the ICT department of the school to upload records to the Students Verification System (SVS).
The loan website, which went live early Friday, is currently accessible to students of federal tertiary institutions as part of the pilot phase.
NELFUND’s Media and Public Relations Lead, Mr. Nasir Ayitogo, provided detailed instructions for applying for the loan. The student loan policy, introduced by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, aims to provide interest-free loans to students. Initially set to launch in October 2023, the scheme was postponed to April 2024 and is now operational as of May 24.
