Minimum Wage: Labour Rejects FG’s N60k Offer Sets for Strike in June
The organized labour has rejected the federal government’s revised offer of a N60,000 minimum wage following the tripartite committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. This marks the fourth proposal turned down by labour leaders in the past two months since negotiations began.

Despite the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) reducing their initial demand from N615,000 to N497,000, the meeting ended in a deadlock. Previously, the federal government’s proposal of N57,000 was increased to N60,000, but this was still deemed insufficient by labour leaders.
NLC Head of Information, Benson Upah, emphasized that N60,000 is not acceptable, criticizing the government’s economic policies and reforms. Contrary to reports, Upah clarified that labour has not proposed N100,000 and remains firm on their last demand of N494,000.
With negotiations stalled and the meeting adjourned indefinitely, the labour unions are preparing for a strike in June to press their demands.
