Maryam Lawal Shines as LASU Law Graduates Dominate 2025 Call to Bar Ceremony
Lagos State University (LASU) recorded yet another historic feat at the Nigerian Law School’s 2025 Call to Bar Ceremony, as one of its brightest, Lawal Maryam Abiodun, emerged as the Best Graduating Female Student and the Second Overall Best Graduating Student out of 7,134 candidates.
Maryam, a graduate of LASU’s Faculty of Law (Common and Islamic Law), stood tall among the crowd of new legal practitioners at the ceremony held in Abuja, representing a moment of pride not just for herself, but for the entire LASU community.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, at the ceremony, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Kareem Olatoye, commended Maryam’s outstanding achievement. He described her as “a true ambassador and a shining example of the excellence we instil in our students,” encouraging others to emulate her diligence and dedication.
In a congratulatory message, the Vice-Chancellor praised Maryam’s academic excellence, noting that her success is a reflection of LASU’s high standards in legal education and mentorship. “This remarkable achievement underscores the high standards of education and mentorship at LASU. It reflects our commitment to nurturing globally competitive graduates who will stand out anywhere in the world,” she said.
The celebration didn’t stop there. LASU also produced a total of ten First-Class graduates at the 2025 Call to Bar Ceremony, a remarkable milestone that further cemented the university’s reputation for academic distinction.

Commending the group, Professor Olatoye referred to them as worthy ambassadors of LASU and urged current students to remain committed to their academic pursuits.
The Vice-Chancellor also congratulated the entire Faculty of Law, praising the leadership of Professor Olatoye and the lecturers for their unwavering dedication. “These awards are a testament to the strength of LASU’s academic training and the dedication of our students and faculty,” she said.
