LASU VC Directs Immediate Adoption of the New National Anthem at University Events

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on Wednesday, 29th May 2024, signed into law the National Anthem Bill 2024, which restores the old national anthem “Nigeria, we hail thee”.

Following this development, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has directed that the old national anthem “Nigeria, we hail thee” should henceforth be adopted and used at all official university functions and events.

Find below the lyrics of the National Anthem:

Nigeria, we hail thee

Nigeria, we hail thee, Our own dear native land, Though tribe and tongue may differ, In brotherhood we stand, Nigerians all, are proud to serve Our sovereign Motherland.

Our flag shall be a symbol That truth and justice reign, In peace or battle honoured, And this we count as gain, To hand on to our children A banner without stain.

O God of all creation, Grant this our one request, Help us to build a nation Where no man is oppressed, And so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed.
