LASU Begins Tuition Refunds for NELFUND Beneficiaries Who Paid Before Loan Disbursement

Lagos State University (LASU) has initiated the refund process for students who paid their tuition fees prior to receiving disbursements from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). This move aims to alleviate the financial burden on students who had to make out-of-pocket payments despite being approved for the student loan.

Key Details:

• Refund Commencement: The refund process began on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, and is managed by the university’s Bursary Unit.

• Eligibility: All verified beneficiaries of the NELFUND loan, irrespective of their academic year, programme, or stream, are eligible for the refund.

• Application Procedure: Students who previously submitted formal refund requests to the Bursary, located on the 4th floor of the Senate Building at LASU’s Ojo campus, are advised to check their bank accounts. Refunds are being processed based on the account details provided in their requests.

• NELFUND Portal Update: NELFUND has updated its online portal to reflect the actual tuition fees credited to LASU on behalf of each student, correcting the previously displayed ₦120,000.

This development has brought relief to many students concerned about paying tuition fees out of pocket despite loan approvals. It also signifies a positive step in the collaboration between universities and the loan scheme to enhance access to affordable education.
