LASU BACKS JAMB REGISTRAR, PROF. OLOYEDE, AFTER UTME SETBACK
Legitdan News reports that Lagos State University (LASU) has publicly declared its full support for the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following the recent issues that affected the 2025 UTME.
In a press release signed by Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, LASU praised Prof. Oloyede for his honesty and courage in admitting the technical problems that disrupted the UTME results of over 379,000 candidates across Lagos and parts of the South East.
On Wednesday, 14th May 2025, during a national press conference, Prof. Oloyede openly took responsibility for the glitch and ordered that affected candidates should be allowed to rewrite their exams. LASU commended this move, calling it a rare show of integrity and humility in Nigerian public service.
The university described Prof. Oloyede as a man of strong character who has consistently shown excellence and transparency—both during his time as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and now as JAMB Registrar since 2016. They noted that his reforms have improved the credibility of UTME and have helped institutions like LASU admit more qualified students.
LASU also called on Nigerians to support leaders who take responsibility instead of blaming others. The university believes that this incident should be seen as a chance to improve the exam process, not just as a failure.
“May the Nigerian education family continue to make progress. Amen,” the statement concluded.
