The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a clarification regarding its role in the admissions process for Higher National Diploma (HND) candidates, following recent accusations from some HND graduates who have been unable to participate in the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

In a statement released by JAMB’s spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board emphasized that it has no involvement, authority, or control over the admissions process for HND candidates. The clarification was prompted by false claims that JAMB was responsible for the inability of some HND graduates to be mobilized for the NYSC.

Dr. Benjamin reiterated that JAMB’s mandate is confined to determining matriculation requirements and conducting examinations leading to undergraduate admissions, including National Diploma (ND) and Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) courses. The board’s responsibilities do not extend to postgraduate courses or any other selective processes for tertiary institutions beyond the undergraduate level.

The statement further explained that JAMB had no involvement in the admissions of students into their HND programs, as the board’s engagement was limited to endorsing admissions for ND programs. Any issues related to HND admissions fall outside JAMB’s jurisdiction.

The board criticized the baseless accusations against it and warned that some candidates might face legal repercussions for making false claims. JAMB urged the public to disregard these accusations, affirming that the board’s role does not encompass matters related to HND admissions or NYSC mobilization.
