JAMB INTRODUCES INCLUSIVITY POLICY TO BENEFIT PRISON INMATES
Legitdan News reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has launched a new inclusivity policy designed to create educational and career opportunities for prison inmates. This initiative is part of the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration process.
During a recent visit to the Nigerian Correctional Service in Gombe, JAMB’s Gombe State Coordinator, Mr. Johnson Adebiyi, sensitized qualified inmates on the importance of registering for the 2025 UTME/DE. He emphasized that JAMB has provided necessary facilities to ensure seamless registration and examination for candidates with special needs, including those in correctional facilities.
The inclusivity policy includes a waiver for prison inmates who meet the required admission criteria, allowing them to pursue higher education. This move aligns with JAMB’s commitment to equal opportunities and career advancement for marginalized individuals.
Adebiyi assured that JAMB, in collaboration with tertiary institutions, will monitor the progress of special needs candidates, including inmates, to ensure the success of the policy. He also noted that strict measures are in place to prevent fraudulent activities that could exploit the initiative.
The Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Gombe, Mr. Victor Odafen, commended JAMB for its forward-thinking approach and pledged to support the initiative by encouraging qualified inmates to take advantage of this opportunity.
