JAMB CLARIFIES EXAM START TIME FOLLOWING PETER OBI’S COMMENT ON STUDENTS ARRIVING EARLY
Legitdan News reports that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has responded to a post made by former presidential candidate Peter Obi concerning the timing of UTME exams and the stress it places on candidates.
Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party but did not win, raised concerns about students—mostly teenagers—being asked to attend a public examination as early as 6:30 AM, exposing them to risks and insecurity.
In response, JAMB clarified via its official handle that the actual examination starts at 8:00 AM, not 6:00 AM as implied. However, verification and other clearance processes begin at 6:30 AM, hence the early arrival of candidates is necessary.
JAMB emphasized the importance of allowing enough time for candidates to settle in before the exam begins.
The Board reiterated its commitment to ensuring that examination processes remain secure, well-organized, and efficient for all candidates.
