DISCLAIMER: Malicious Claims of UNIOSUN Vice-Chancellor’s Purchase of Lamborghini

It has come to the attention of Council and Management that some mischievous and irresponsible bloggers on social media are purportedly claiming that the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University has spent $241,000 on a 2024 Lamborghini.

We would like to categorically refute this unfounded and malicious claim, and advise the general public to disregard the falsehood in its entirety.

Our Vice-Chancellor is a respected scholar with a track record of integrity and a commitment to academic excellence. He is not a car enthusiast and has never shown interest in extravagant purchases and lifestyle. Despite being entitled to a brand-new car as his official vehicle, the Vice-Chancellor chose to buy and use a second-hand (“tokunbo”) Camry for the first one and half years of his assumption of duty.

It may interest the general public that the tenure of UNIOSUN’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ARIP), Registrar, Bursar and University Librarian all expired between March and April 2024. The University, as a matter of policy, had to provide an official car for each of the newly appointed Officers and replace the existing “Tokunbo” Utility Vehicle of the Vice-Chancellor. Again, in view of the University’s lean resources, Management had to seek the approval of the Governing Council to purchase a fairly used (Tokunbo) Toyota Camry (2021 model) for these purposes, same model for all.

We want to state unequivocally that the vehicles procured were all fairly used Toyota Camry vehicles for officers who are statutorily entitled to brand new vehicles. This is great sacrifice on the part of the University’s leaders. UNIOSUN has never, and is not at any point contemplating buying any Lamborghini for any of its Officers.

It is instructive to note that the University is deploying all its investigative machineries to unravel these mischief makers, who are circulating falsehood to dent the image of the University and cause confusion needlessly. All such peddlers of fake information will be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for an extensive investigation and prosecution without looking back.

And, if the peddlers of the rumor are strongly convinced of their mission, they should come to the public to give further details about the Lamborghini of their mischievous claim: the registration number, place, date and amount of purchase, etc

We would like to assure all stakeholders of UNIOSUN that the University is in the safest of hands at all levels of leadership. Our ever-increasing national and international achievements are on global public record as an institution of choice in excellence, stability, peace and fiscal discipline.

We strongly advise the public to disregard this baseless rumor. It is essential to rely on verified information and avoid spreading falsehoods that can harm the reputation of individuals and institutions. The Vice-Chancellor and University leadership remain dedicated to leading Osun State University with integrity and humility.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping to correct misinformation.
