CHUKWUEMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU UNIVERSITY (COOU) GETS ACCREDITATION FOR 17 ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES FOR THE 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has released the results of its October/November 2024 accreditation exercise for academic programmes at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Uli, Anambra State.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, made this known in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university. The accreditation was conducted in accordance with Section 10(1) of the Education (National Minimum Standard and Establishment of Institutions) Act CAP E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. The Act empowers the NUC to set and ensure compliance with Minimum Academic Standards in all Nigerian universities.

According to the results, several programmes across various faculties received Full Accreditation status, while some received Interim Accreditation.

Faculty of Agriculture:

• B.Sc. Agriculture – Interim

Faculty of Allied Health Sciences:

• B.NSc. Nursing Science – Full

• B.MLS. Medical Laboratory Science – Full

Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences:

• B.Sc. Physiology – Full

Faculty of Education:

• B.Sc. Education Biology – Full

• B.Sc. Education Chemistry – Full

• B.Sc. Education Physics – Full

• B.Sc. Education Economics – Full

Faculty of Environmental Sciences:

• B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning – Full

Faculty of Medicine:

• MBBS Medicine and Surgery – Full

Faculty of Sciences:

• B.Sc. Geology – Full

• B.Sc. Statistics – Full

The NUC noted that Full Accreditation status is valid for five years, while Interim Accreditation is valid for two years, after which the programme will be revisited. If a programme continues to earn Interim Accreditation for two consecutive visits, it will automatically revert to Denied Accreditation status.

For postgraduate programmes, an Accredited status allows continued admission and recognition of certificates. However, any programme that is not accredited faces an immediate ban on student admissions. Certificates issued after such a ban will not be recognized, although current students are not affected.
