President Bola Tinubu has appointed Olatunji Bello as the new Chief Executive Officer/Executive Vice-Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). This appointment, disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, is pending confirmation by the Senate.

Bello is a seasoned lawyer, administrator, and journalist. He holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, where he also studied Law and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002. His career in journalism began in 1985 at Concord Newspapers, where he held several key positions including Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor, and Editor of National Concord. He has also won the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship and served as Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers in 2001. Additionally, he was the Commissioner for Environment under various administrations in Lagos State and the former Secretary to the Lagos State Government.

The President expects that Bello will effectively fulfill the FCCPC’s mandate of protecting and promoting the interests and welfare of Nigerian consumers, and ensuring the safety and quality of goods and services.
