The Bayero University Kano (BUK) Staff Model Primary School conducted scholarship interviews for children from neighboring communities in Tofa, Gwale, and Kumbotso local government areas. The initiative aims to support indigent students by offering scholarships.

Held at the school’s Old Campus, the interviews were part of the school’s corporate social responsibility efforts. Malam Imam Uba, Head Teacher, shared the school’s history, highlighting its establishment in 1969 and expansion under the University’s leadership.

Malam Aliyu Musa Adam, Scholarship Scheme Coordinator, explained that admissions are categorized into staff children, non-staff children, and indigent scholarships. This year, 40 pupils from the three local governments were selected for scholarships, ensuring a fair and transparent process with gender balance.

Eligibility requirements include:

 

– Age: at least six years old

– Birth certificate presentation

– Passing an entrance examination

 

 

The interview assessed children’s abilities in:

 

 

– Letter recognition

– Number identification

– Reading

– Writing

Dr. Kabiru Bello Dungurawa, Chairman of the school’s Governing Board, thanked BUK for extending the indigent scholarship, promoting inclusivity and access to education for local communities.

 

 

“This partnership encourages community engagement and demonstrates the University’s commitment to social responsibility,” Dr. Dungurawa said.
