Prof. Tony Asekhauno, a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), has been accused of sexual harassment by a former student named Mercy McQuin.

Mercy McQuin shared her experience on social media, claiming that Asekhauno demanded sex and money from her before he would mark her final year exam script. She described how he harassed her in his office and admitted to having sex with other female students in the department.

McQuin explained that during her final year, a fellow student told her that Asekhauno wanted to see her. When she initially refused, the student insisted, saying that Asekhauno would not mark his script unless she went to his office. When she arrived, she saw other female students there. Asekhauno showed her that her exam script was unmarked and said he needed to see her before marking it.

She recounted being forced to stay in his office until late evening and being taken to the staff club. She described several instances of harassment, including Asekhauno exposing himself and demanding a kiss, threatening that she would not graduate if she did not comply. She also mentioned spending money to buy him alcohol and even considering hiring other girls to keep him away from her.

McQuin expressed her trauma and called for public accountability and punishment for Asekhauno for his actions. These allegations highlight the ongoing issue of sexual harassment in universities and the need for thorough investigations and protective measures for students.
