Ibadan Polytechnic Laments Thousands Of Unclaimed Certificate
Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, the Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, has disclosed that a significant number of certificates belonging to former graduates remain unclaimed.
This situation has led the institution to consider implementing fines for those who do not retrieve their certificates.During a pre-graduation press conference held at the CIBN Hall on Thursday, Lasisi made this announcement in anticipation of the 39th graduation ceremony.
He confirmed that the special guest of honor for the event will be Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, scheduled for Friday, February 14, 2025, at the 1,000-Seater Hall along the North/South Road.”It might interest you to know that all the certificates for this year’s graduands have been signed and are ready for collection immediately after the ceremony,” Lasisi stated. “Additionally, there are thousands of certificates from previous graduates that are still awaiting collection.
The institution may have to introduce fines for individuals who have not come forward to collect their certificates.
The rector noted that this year’s convocation will focus solely on the 2023/24 graduands, in contrast to previous ceremonies that combined multiple graduating classes, as the institution currently has no outstanding graduates.Lasisi also emphasized recent advancements in academic activities and stricter adherence to disciplinary measures.
He pointed out that some students admitted alongside the graduating class had been dismissed due to academic deficiencies or misconduct following proceedings before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.He assured attendees that security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), would be present to ensure a safe and orderly convocation.

The briefing was attended by several key officials, including Deputy Rector Mrs. Olaide Salawu, Registrar Mr. Joseph Ogunjimi, ASUU Chairman Dr. Kola Lawal, Medical Director Dr. Ogunsina, and other prominent members of the institution’s administration.
