Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) School of Basic and Remedial Studies Releases Admission Form for the 2024/2025 Academic Session

The Management of the School of Basic and Remedial Studies at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, announces that the sale of application forms for the 2024/2025 academic session is now open.

Admission Requirements:

1.0 Remedial Programme:

  • Candidates must possess at least three (3) credits in Science, Arts, and Social Science subjects, and any two (2) relevant passes at ‘O’ level in no more than two (2) sittings.
  • Subjects include:
    • Science: Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Physics
    • Arts: Arabic, French, Hausa, History, Islamic Studies, Literature in English
    • Social Science: Accounting, Civic Education, Commerce, Economics, Government
    • General Subjects: English Language, Mathematics
  • Candidates must register and pass WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or NBAIS exams at credit level in the deficient subjects.
  • Candidates must register for UTME, obtain the minimum pass mark, and choose Umaru Musa Yar’adua University as their first choice.
  • Duration: One year.

2.0 IJMBE Programme:

  • Candidates must have at least five (5) ‘O’ level credits including English and Mathematics in Science, Arts, and Social Science subjects, in no more than two (2) sittings.
  • For candidates from educationally less developed states (ELDS), a deficiency in English is allowed but must be remedied before the end of the programme.
  • Subjects include:
    • Science: Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics
    • Arts: Arabic, French, Hausa, History, Islamic Studies, Literature in English
    • Social Science: Accounting, Business Management, Commerce, Economics, Geography, Government, Sociology
  • Registered candidates must also register for JAMB Direct Entry (DE) admissions.
  • Duration: One year.

3.0 Basic Studies:

Diploma Programme:

  • Part-Time Diploma in Law with specialization in Shari’a and Civil Law or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
    • Requirements: SSCE with at least 5 credits, Teachers Grade II with at least 4 credits, or NBAIS with at least a credit overall grade.
    • Duration: Two academic sessions/four semesters.
  • Part-Time Diploma in Education with various humanities and science options.
    • Requirements: SSCE with at least 5 credits including English and Mathematics.
    • Duration: Two academic sessions/four semesters.

Certificate Programme:

  • Professional Certificate in English, Translation and Subtitling for English.
    • Requirements: At least three (3) ‘O’ level credits including English.
  • Certificate in Solar PV Installation, Renewable Energy Management.
    • Requirements: At least three (3) ‘O’ level credits in science subjects including English.
    • Duration: Six months.

Immersion Programme (English):

  • Designed for candidates seeking proficiency in English to gain university admission.
    • Duration: Seven months (two semesters).

Methods of Application:

  1. Log onto UMYU website and create a profile.
  2. Make an online payment of N3,000 and obtain a payment slip. This covers the cost of the form and online screening.
  3. Fill in the online application form.

Objectives of the School:

  • Remedy ‘O’ level deficiencies.
  • Provide technical expertise for national exams (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, IJMBE).
  • Prepare candidates for Remedial and IJMBE ‘A’ Level Examinations to gain admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
  • Train candidates for Certificate and Diploma Studies.
